VGDP Summer Intensive
The Vancouver Global Dance Project Summer Intensive program for both youth and pre-professionals will provide dancers with the training and support needed to succeed in today's contemporary dance world. Participants of both programs will receive up to three weeks of master classes and workshops in improvisation, choreography and dance history. They will also be given training in contemporary technique, jazz, modern, ballet, tap, hip-hop and bollywood. In addition to the intensive coaching sessions, dancers will experience a professional choreographer's full creative process, learn original choreographed pieces and perform at the VGDP Performance Series.
Pre-professional Intensive
Our pre-professional program is designed for dancers who are looking to pursue a professional career in dance. The program focuses on providing pre-professionals with the unique skills and training needed to make the demanding and complex transition into the professional dance world.
Dancers will also learn from our two guest choreographers and immerse themselves in the exciting process of developing two unique pieces for performance. This unique approach will enable dancers to understand what it takes to succeed as a professional dancer, the techniques used by working choreographers and what will be expected of them in a professional setting.
The final pieces from the Intensive will be performed to a live audience during the VGDP Performance Series in downtown Vancouver on August 27th, 2011.
Who can apply? This program is open to dancers aged 14-20 who have proven dance skills, dedication and an interest in mastering the art of choreography. Applicants must provide sufficient evidence of past dance experience and have at least 4 years of dance experience. Following registration, VGDP may ask applicants to verify their dance experience due to the intensity of the program.
How do I apply? Please submit the relevant registration and application form. Registration will remain open until all spaces have been filled.
Where is it? The Intensive will take place at The Landing Dance Center, 270 SW Marine Drive, V5X 2R5 and will run Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm* from July 26th until August 11th.
Pre-professional Intensive 2011 Prices
Full program (3-weeks): $900 + HST
Partial program (1 or 2 weeks): $450 per week + HST

Note: The VGDP welcomes dancers at all stages of their training for as much or as little time as they feel they can commit to. We understand that some participants will not be able to sign-up to the full three-week program and in these circumstances we are able to offer both one and two week intensives. Please note that only participants who take the full three week program will be eligible to perform at the VGDP Performance Series, and performances by part-time participants will be at the discretion of the VGDP Faculty.
Youth
Our youth program is for dancers with varying abilities who wish to explore the fundamentals of dance and choreography. Throughout this innovative course, dancers will receive expert instruction from guest choreographers and VGDP Faculty. Dancers will take daily classes in ballet, hip hop, jazz, improvisation and choreography composition. To compliment the training schedule, dancers will also learn two, 3-5 minute choreographed pieces that will be performed at the VGDP Performance Series in downtown Vancouver.
Who can I apply? This program is open to dancers aged 10-14 who can demonstrate dedication and interest in developing their knowledge of and skills in contemporary dance and other dance forms. Applicants must have been training in dance for at minimum of 2 years.
